Overview
A meniscus tear is injury to the cartilage cushion inside the knee. It can occur with twisting injuries or degenerative changes.

Symptoms
Pain along the joint line, swelling, locking, catching, or limited motion.

Treatment
Rest, ice, physical therapy, and activity modification for many tears. Arthroscopic surgery may be needed for displaced tears or persistent symptoms.
